For quite some time I have alluded to a desk I was constructing, and now it is time for you to see what I was talking about all that time!
Please excuse the poor photo quality of my phone pictues, and also the horrible lighting from inside my dim apartment combined with the insane glow from my computer.
So that's the desk, and I built her! Well not alone, actually I was more of the creative director of this project to be quite honest.
After purchasing my new computer in June, I realized a needed a desk to house it, and I was so dissatisfied with all desks from stores for more reasons than I care to list, so I plotted with Charlie, and we decided building a desk was very doable. I was really interested in using a driftwood stain since I love the gray wood color. The stain choice ended up being an exterior deck stain called barnboard. We used a prestain wood conditioner on it so that the woodgrain pulled through and stood out! I would definitely recommend it!
The biggest thank you goes out to Charlie's dad Joel, for helping us get the wood smooth, solidly put together, and stained to perfection!
With the gray colors and hairpin legs, this desk is really my dreams come true in the form of a workspace. Plus it was really affordable!
Wood: 2"x1'x10' cut in half to make a 2'x5' tabletop ($20 on craigslist)
Stain: Cabot exterior deck stain in barnboard ($14 at Menards)
Prestain Wood Condition + Polyurethane Coating ($2.50 each at the ReStore)
Legs: Waddell 3-bar table leg ($15 each at Home Depot)
Various other supplies like wood glue, brushes, wood putty, and screws were donated by either my father or Joel, so all together to project cost me just under $100, which is pretty good when considering the insane costs of work station style desks.
