My Weekend

My weekend came and went at a rather pleasant pace. I am lucky enough to have Fridays off, so it technically began Thursday evening, though I cannot remember doing anything interesting that night. Friday morning started with MORE apartment showings, and progressed into an afternoon trip to Oshkosh, where time was spent lounging around with Charlie in the house I grew up in, chatting my parents, petting my dog, and doing laundry.

Despite the greatness of the day, the best part of Friday was speaking on the phone with a gal from Portland who is moving to Madison in two weeks and wants to rent my apartment. So far all applicants have backed out for primarily financial reasons, but I have finally found my renter! She spoke with the leasing agent Saturday and applied today. I feel so relieved, and am excited to begin packing at the end of this week.

The main purpose of the weekend in Oshkosh was for a meeting Saturday morning. About a month ago I approached an old pal who is getting married with an offer to make her save the dates and invitations, free of charge, because I would love to learn more about the wedding process and have these pieces in portfolio. I love weddings and not-so-secretly want to be a wedding planner; graphic design is my skill to offer to brides, so this is where I will start pursuing my interest. It was great to see a friend so happy, and I was thrilled with the ideas she shared! I think my design aesthetic will lend itself so well for the style she is looking for. I also learned about a project for my layout design class last week where we have to do graphic design work for someone that requires at lease 20 hours of designing, so this will be perfect!

Charlie and I did a bit of thrifting, hoping to find a small table for our new kitchen nook, though left the day empty-handed. Despite the lack of finds, I was in such a great mood all afternoon (and still am) and enjoyed the beautiful Wisconsin fall weather.

As for today, it's been a lazy day, but I did do some work for my job at Edgewood's student newspaper. I am pretty much starting from scratch on the layout and design of the paper since their previous "designer" had little to no actual graphic design experience and produced a painfully ugly reading experience for the last two or more years.

Just a little peek at what I have so far. In the past the poor design made the paper seem unprofessional, and represented the writers in a sad, amateur way, so hopefully this makeover will help a bit.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, I know I did.
